March 9, 2006
Have you ever thought of bringing in a fulltime backup band?
I've definitely thought about it. If I came across the perfect group of people to be in the band than it would be very possible. Right now, I'm having fun with bringing my friends on the road with me. Its really been up to them when they want to come out on tour. My drummer is going to school so its pretty casual right now but next record might be different
How long have you been writing/performing?
I have been writing since I was about 13... so about 10 years I guess?
What is your favorite thing about the fans?
I think there is something special going on with my fans There is this really warm connection between the music and fans. Its not the normal rock star type of fans. At the shows it feels like we all know each other even though we don't
What is your favorite thing about touring? Your least favorite thing?
My favorite would be playing the actual show and meeting everyone in every city. My least favorite would be everything else. Not sleeping much, really long drives stuff like that but overall I love touring. I'd rather be on tour 99% of the time than not.
When was your first time out of North America?
It was Japan in 2003, in the summer. It was pretty insane.
What is your favorite song to play?
I generally like playing whichever song is the first song in the set because it's the opening and everyone is excited. People seem to go pretty wild for Brat Pack as well so that's always fun.
What song do you feel the crowd connects with the best?
I'd say it changes, but if I had to say one it would be Brat Pack.
What was the most fun you've had on tour, and who was it with?
This tour with Relient K because they are my close friends and we are having a blast doing this... we've been good friends for a long time.
What are some of the most memorable experiences you've had with meeting fans on the road, or at shows?
The most memorable was when somebody named their son Bryce Avary… that was pretty wild!
What are some of your most memorable experiences with bands you've met?
On the Hellogoodbye tour one of the guys from Hit the Lights ran on stage in just a towel. His band ripped it right off him... there was a lot of parents at the show so it was pretty crazy.
Where do you get inspiration for songs?
As cliche as it may sound from life, love, hate, victory and how God uses all of that.
